As you may have heard, the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS wades into the electric vehicle segment with all the flash and bang. This German automaker has decided to try its hand at making the move towards electrification, and they have done a fair job at it too. The CLS gives us a sleek four-door coupe that will warrant the turning of heads on the road.
Coming with a great electrified engine, the CLS gives you an EQ Boost engine. What is an EQ Boost engine? The EQ Boost engine gives you a 48-volt electrical architecture engine, and this engine will give your car an acceleration boost that has an electric compressor for AMG applications. This matters because you receive punch-packed performance with this vehicle more than with a turbocharged internal combustion engine. With EQ Boost going to work, you can hit peak torque within two seconds at full throttle. The 48-volt system also helps to power the air conditioning compressor and the water pump. When we look at the engine of the CLS, you have a restyled 3.0-liter unit, and you can generate anywhere from 5,500 RPMs to 6,100 RPMs. Because of the engine on this car, you can race from zero to 62 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds. The fully integrated electric motor has become a big help when it comes to assisting the combustion engine. You have two different diesel models that you can choose from. You can either choose the 350, or you can choose the 400. Both of these engines generate up to 289 horsepower.
Plenty of Excellent Safety Features
You have a long list of optional and standard safety features that you will receive with the 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS. For example, you receive attention assist technology that alerts you whenever you start to become drowsy. This industry-first technology has been designed with the intention of alerting drivers whenever they’re not up to the challenge of driving. In some cases, it can be hard to recognize signs of fatigue in yourself, but this technology will allow for you to identify it in yourself. You also have some other great safety additions like speed limit assist, which will automatically slow down for speed limits. You have a few semiautonomous driving features with this model that help to make it an even more attractive purchase.
What We Have to Understand with the New Model
We have a few things that we should understand with the new 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS. First, you have to understand how this car isn’t a full hybrid. However, the electric motor will give you an additional 21 horsepower to come off the throttle and give you a boost. When you have the engine stop-start enabled on this car, you can coast for a short distance, and you don’t have to worry about restarting your gas engine, which will help you improve the fuel economy. This isn’t necessarily a fully electric vehicle, but it’s taking a step in the right direction. Like some of the other brands, this German automaker has been slow to adopt electrification, but we will probably see more of it in the future as these new brands continue to adopt newer and newer technology.
The Same Output with Less Fuel Consumption?
Mercedes has gone on to say, like many of the other automakers, that the new I6 gives you the same output as what you’d have with a V8 engine. You can greatly lower the fuel consumption with this kind of technology, which is what has been the big appeal of it. Families can afford to take long road trips because they don’t have to worry about the cost of fuel.
What’s New with the 2019 CLS?
We’ve seen a few refreshing new features of this vehicle like semi-autonomous driving capabilities. Another one of the benefits is that the new CLS has fewer sharp lines on it, which allows for it to cheat the wind. You also have LED headlights that have been turned at a downward angle, and the entire package looks and feels smoother and softer than ever before.
Most likely, this move toward hybrid vehicles will eventually lead to the automaker building their first fully electric vehicle. As the technology continues to improve and get even better, we could even see combustion engines become obsolete. Outside of the focus on building its first hybrid, Mercedes has focused their intention on building comfort throughout the system with a rich list of features. One of the great gas saving features of the CLS is that you can switch it to Eco mode, which will allow you to turn off the combustion engine and coast on the electrical part of the vehicle. In the end, this step towards electrification will be popular because of how gives customers savings at the fuel pump. Give us a call and let us know when you’re available for a test drive.
